Why I Love Living in Portland

Yesterday was a regular day for me. I was on my way from a haircut to the gym when suddenly traffic stopped. When it didn’t move for a while, I peeked around the biodiesel van that was in front of me and saw there was a parade going on. Or a protest march, I’m not sure.

What I did see was lots of paper mache puppets making their way down Salmon Street toward Naito Parkway. Unlike most of the anti-war marches, this one was very quiet. And I’m not even sure what they were marching for, but I’m sure it’s something I support.

The only chanting I heard was “Books not Bars. Books not Bars” over and over. But I still don’t know what they were getting at. Are they saying read and don’t drink? Or did they mean put money into libraries instead of jails? Who knows, but it was a protest! And they were earnest!

Lipstick snapped this picture from the balcony of her condo. I missed the polar bear, but I did see fish, George, Dick and Condoleezza in prison garb and some pirates. Hmm. Does anyone know what this was all about? Or even if you don’t, best guess wins a t-shirt.

Dip, I think it was a march to save the planet because before the polar bear humdrummed by, there was a large pack (right word?) of paper mache frogs that hopped by.

Which t-shirt do I get? Can I pick one out at Nordstrom?

I should also add that the same day, there were swarms of people dressed as angels with white powder on their faces running the downtown streets, too. They all had white umbrellas and huge beautiful feathered wings on their backs.

I miss Portland I think it is for the librarys. Look who was there a bear from " Golden Compass" the frogs could have been from a nature book. The angles tho I think that was just an art exibit.

Not exactly positive -- but I think that this was the one of PSU staff adn students because one of the classes was labeled as dangerous.
