SF Pride Day 2 + 3

Wow! Dip and I had the greatest time this weekend, playing and working here in San Francisco. After a relatively mellow Saturday at the CURVE booth and then kicking it at Dolores Park with 50,000 other dykes (see photo of Dip and I, and the one of our Daddy, CURVE publisher Frances Stevens--you can click on image to enlarge), Dip and I got to bed relatively early to rest of our big day emceeing the main stage at the SF Pride Festival.

The day at the main stage was packed with excitement, not the least of which was meeting Margaret Cho, Peter Paige, Gus Van Sant and Leslie Jordan from Will and Grace. The emcee gig went off without a hitch, despite the fact that Cyndi Lauper was a no show (I thought we'd get hot dogs and warm beer thrown at us) and Charo bailed at the last minute, too. No cuchi cuchi for us.

Enjoy the photos and videos!

You can click on the images to make them bigger.

We had a blast.

SF Pride Day 1

Greetings from smoky San Francisco! What a great first day we had in the city by the bay.

Fortunately, the fires have subsided here in the Bay Area, but that doesn't mean there wasn't smoke coming from the myriad lezzie parties that went down last night. We started the night at CURVE's Welcome Reception at the Hotel Kabuki. I'm not sure about the story behind this chicken feather coat Dipstick is wearing below, but I'm sure glad I got this picture of her showing it off.

After dinner and drinks, we headed to Lollipop, an all-girls party right on the water outside the Mission. At this party, in the "cage", we met and chatted with the L Word's Rose Rollins, who is a giant fan of CURVE's. She was super sweet--even though she was being mobbed (seriously) by lezbots with their cell cams and digital cams. Her boyfriend was sweet, too, although I didn't catch his name. He snapped this pic of us. He and Rose had just done a tequila shooter minutes before this shot. On our way out, in typical pride drama fashion, a fist fight broke out in line between two dykes. If I hadn't had one foot in the cab, I would've gone over with my bullwhip and given those lame labias a piece of Lipstick's mind.

We ended the night with three straight guys (I know, kinda weird), who we met in our hotel elevator. On the sidewalk, Pattycake and I ended up having a really interesting conversation (once we convinced him we really were rug munchers) with him about how he and his lezzie sister aren't close and how he can mend their relationship. And just when I thought I could put my lipstick and bullwhip away... He was a really nice guy and I hope he really does reach out to his sister to let her know how much he cares and how who she is is okay.

Come see us at the CURVE booth today at the Pride festival. We'll be there from 1-4pm.

San Fran Pride Here We Come!

Happy Pride Season!

Dipstick and I are so excited! We've been asked to emcee the main stage for San Francisco Pride on Sunday. This means we not only get to be Lipstick & Dipstick in front of tens of thousands of people (maybe hundreds of thousands), but we get to introduce a stellar line up of people. First, HELLO Cyndi Lauper. And Margaret Cho will come out with the grand marshals and make everyone piddle. (I just peed a little
thinking about it.) Charo--the woman who is famous for her cuchi cuchi and fabously flamboyant ways--will entertain you before we get to celebrate Pride with Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San Francisco who is oh-so-dreamy Gavin Newsom and others.

The pic below was take from our from last year when we met him. See blog.

If you've got next weekend free and you live in the Bay Area, get your ass down to the city for Pride. Details are below. If you don't live in the area and have frequent flyer miles or have a few hundred dollars to burn, book a flight and get your ass on a flight!

Here is a run down of where we'll be this weekend:

Friday, June 27th
7pm-9pm
Welcome Party at Hotel Kabuki (CURVE's host hotel for SF Pride 08)

Saturday, June 28th
1pm-4pm
CURVE Booth
Signing books and greeting readers

Sunday, June 29th
12pm-2pm
Main Stage Emceeing
Performers include: Cyndi Lauper, Margaret Cho + Gavin Newsom

2:30pm-4pm
CURVE Booth
Signing books and greeting readers

Please come by the CURVE booth and say hello to us!

Dani Campbell Issue Release Party

Dip and I had a blast on our whirlwind trip to San Fran this weekend. We were in town for less than 24 hours and managed to squeeze in dim sum, an NPR radio interview and emcee a big dyke party for CURVE magazine.

The dim sum was divine at Gold Mountain, the best place in Chinatown. If you like circling carts of Chinese food (dumpling, shumai and chicken feet) then you'll love this place. And if you're Caucasian, you suddenly get a crash course in what it feels like to be a minority.

Next, Marilyn Pittman picked us up and drove us across town to the local NPR radio station. Maryiln is a frickin' riot and hosts the radio show Out in the Bay. She had Dipstick and I both in stitches as we braved rush hour traffic, discussing the pitfalls of long term relationships and how orgasms shoot through the roof during menopause. Apparently they last forever?? We'll be sure to let you know when the interview airs; it will be online after it airs in the Bay Area.

At the crazy party, we sold a ton of books and loved seeing the Pin Up Girls. They were SO sexy. Meow! One of their songs was featured on the L Word this last season. Check them out below:

Covergirl Dan Campbell was also great and smokin' hot. The women went apeshit for her, too. You know how drunk dykes can be... OUT OF CONTROL! The pic below is of us with CURVE's publisher, Frances Stevens (aka our daddy), Dani and Colleen Lee, a stellar editor at CURVE who kicks ass.

A special thanks to Kimton, who hooked us up at the Hotel Triton!

My Old Friend Terese Genecco

I was at the gym the other day reading my Advocate magazine. Right up front was a tiny article about a powerful big band lead singer/cabaret performer. I thought, “Hey, that girl looks familiar.” We went to college together.

So I got home, googled her and sent her off an email. I heard back within hours. Not only did she remember me, she attached some photos from when we were hanging out in her apartment back in the day. I won’t say how long ago this was, but notice, I’m putting on an album.

It turns out Terese is now living in San Francisco and I was on my way there. Terese Genecco leads a little big band that is one of the hottest shows in San Francisco. She’s won all kinds of awards, including “Entertainer of the Year” in San Francisco.

She came to see us at the Curve/Dani Campbell party. We didn’t have a lot of time to talk, but it sure was fun to hook up with an old friend. Unfortunately, I had to leave before I got to see her show. But you can bet it’s on my agenda for the next time I’m in SF.

Be sure to check out Terese.
Terese Genecco and her little big band are currently starring in "LAST CALL!" on Saturday nights at 10:30 PM in The Rrazz at Hotel Nikko in downtown San Francisco.

I Left My Heart...

San Francisco was a treat! My good friend KC had the day off and I made her take me to Fisherman's Wharf, because I had never been there. We ate some good crab and found my new fishing boat. (see photo) We also visited a very cool museum with old coin-operated toys and exhibits from the 40s and 50s.
Later Lipstick and I met up with our editor Diane and Ondine from Curve magazine for a drink at Mix, a great little dive bar in the Castro. Then we met up with friends KC, Janet and Barbara for a great Indian dinner at Bombay Indian Restaurant on Market Street.

Then it was onto the main event. Our reading at A Different Light Bookstore. What a great crowd on hand. There were plenty of lesbians in the seats and a few guys mingling around in the back, listening in, but pretending they really didn't care about lesbian relationship advice. I saw one of two crack smiles, though. And I can't forget Seth, the sweet boy who works there, dressed comando in a skirt. You've gotta love the Castro.

We finished the night off with a few drinks at Harvey's with current and former Curve magazine staffers. We're so glad to be part of the Curve family.

I had to catch an early flight home the next day, but I'm happy that we'll be returning to SF soon for the Curve Issue Release Party with Dani Campbell
on March 28th. Please join us!

It will be fun and interactive and there will be prizes....

Our Time in Oakland

Thank you Laurel Books and all the lesbos (and one guy!) who came out to our reading last night. Luan and her partner, Emily, hosted the event and they had quite a spread for the enthusiastic crowd. Wine, cookies and an explosion of fruits. After the reading, we went to Velvet Nightclub, one of the Bay Area's only exclusive dyke bars (The Lexington is the other).

We met lots of lovely people, including MJ, Carol, Lamb Chop, Jude, Teri, Alison (who interviewed us for THIS piece) and fellow author Lucy Jane Bledsoe, who we'll also go see in Portland next week. She'll be reading from her new book Biting the Apple. We snapped a picture with her below.

Santa Cruz Lezbots Rock

Thanks Santa Cruz for showing us the love last night by coming out to our reading at Bookshop Santa Cruz in California. What a great turnout (about 30 peeps) and the Q & A was the longest one we've had with some really great questions (you anarchists, you).

A special shout out to George with the Bookshop and her partner of 21 years (we told them they should write the next relationship guide!) Ellen. Also, Diana and her sexy, sassy bitches (all pictured with our book) for coming out even though our reading interfered with the L Word (note to self: BAD PLANNING on our part). Despite the run-in with Shane, Bette and Ilene Chaiken, the crowd was great.

Two very special guests were in the audience: My brother--aka The Swami in the book--and his wife, Lanie. We're staying with them while we're here in Santa Cruz and I think the reading was very eye-opening for my brother. While he laughed a lot (we are have the same sense of humor and even though we were born 3.5 years apart, we are convinced we are twins), he probably learned more about his little sister than he ever wanted to know. We read the chapter: Dip Me in Honey and Throw Me to the Lesbians.

That said, he is always such a great sport and Lanie, too, is such an ally. In their wedding years ago, there were more lesbians standing up on her side as bridesmaids than breeders!

Straight allies are the best!

I love you, B + L!

PS: We went to this great place in downtown Santa Cruz after for dinner and wine. Check it out: Soif

A Different Light Bookstore smack dab in the middle of it all, will be hosting the butch and femme on Thursday night. The CURVE girrrls will be on hand and we're planning on whooping it up afterwards. If you're in the Bay Area, come check out one of the events!

Dani Campbell + Lipstick & Dipstick

Mark your calendars, ladies, and, if you don't live in San Fran, book your flights. Lipstick & Dipstick are going to be emceeing CURVE's upcoming issue release party on March 28th. The party will be at Hotel Kabuki and is sure to be off the hook. It's starts a 9pm and we'll be dancing until 1am. Beyond emceeing, Dipstick and I will also be signing our book and having a good 'ole time, too.

CURVE's cover girl this month--Dani Campbell--is from MTV's "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" and will be signing her issue and maybe--if you're lucky--bumpin' and grindin' on the dance floor. (Dip, you should wear you hair like Dani!)

Also making an appearance is San Francisco's own Pin Up Girls, the sexy burlesque troup that is sure to blow your socks off. So you can get your mojo on, there will be drink specials and great dance music.

Come play with us.

My Man Crush

Okay, so Dipstick and I were in San Francisco recently for Pride and we got to meet mayor Gavin Newsom. I have to say that I was a little smitten when I shook his hand. I blushed. I'm about as lesbian as they come, but damn, he is one handsome dude. It was the first time I'd ever wished I was a gay man--not that it would've mattered, he's about as straight as they come. He's the King Metrosexual. My crush was so unexpected, only to turn around and see Dipstick also blushing. The butch was beside herself, too! Look how rosy red she is. You can't see it in the picture, but Dipstick also had her hand on his butt cheek. She's one brazen butch.

WE LOVE YOU GAVIN!
THANKS FOR BEING OUR CHAMPION!

Ask Us, We'll Tell

Our favorite part of going to Pride was meeting so many of you who came up to the booth to say hello. We met Dee and Jay in San Francisco. Both of them served in the military. Nobody asked me, but if they did, I could certainly "tell." Not that I would tell. Not on two women as cool as this. I mean, who else do we want defending our country? You know the dykes will do it right!

A picture is worth a thousand orgasms

As Lipstick and I were making our way to the San Francisco Pride Parade, we ran across this sad discarded bunny. How did she end up in the middle of the road? Was she perhaps ejaculated out in a moment of ecstasy? Or was there a Market Street orgy after the Dyke March that we weren't invited to?

Whatever the case, we just feel for Bunny. She looks so disjected, used and discarded. Dear readers, please don't treat your sex toys this way. When it's time for them to retire, give them the proper burial they deserve.

We Love You All

Lipstick and I were blown away with the number of you who came up to us at San Francisco and Portland Prides to say hello and snap a photo. Here are our new friends Azar & Jen at the San Francisco Pride booth.
