A Walk Down Halloween Memory Lane...

Lipstick LOVES Halloween. Down in the garage, there are two huge boxes of costumes I've collected through the years. Also, as a former sorority girl, I seemed to have doubled my collection during my college years. Greeks are always finding a reason to dress up (and drink).

Here are some old photos of Lipstick through her formative years on Halloween.

Really Mom and Dad, you had no idea I was gay--even when I dressed up like a punker dyke and entered that contest?

Oh yeah, and as a football player? What straight girl dresses up as a quarterback?

In these photos, are some my oldest friends. If you look carefully, you might be able to pair them with their mug shot from the trouble we got into last summer.

Believe it or not, the sweet little witchy costumed girl sitting next to "Chief Lipstick" in preschool is actually "Tatum" in the mugshot. We're not sure how she got from sweet little preschooler to rocking rambler.

Set Sail with Lipstick & Dipstick

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy 4th of July everyone! Patty and I are up in Whistler this week enjoying Canada Day (July 1) and the 4th of July. Earlier this week, Patty surprised me with a ZipTrek tour, where we were harnessed (in public--heh em) to heavy-duty wire and zipped from one tree to the next above Fitzsimmons Creek between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. It was AMAZING! It's also an eco-tour, where we learned about how the Whistler rainforest is self-sustaining and all that good stuff.

This ziplining business may seem familiar. In the L Word Season 3 cliffhanger where the girls went to Whistler for Shane and Carmen's botched wedding, Alice went ziplining to overcome her fears/Dana's death.

Anyhoo, you can live vicariously through us in this video.

PS: Don't start any fires or blow any fingers off tonight! And don't drink and drive!

Slip Sliding Away in Whistler

In honor of New Years Eve, Patty and I went innertubing yesterday on Whistler mountain. It was a beautiful afternoon and we decided it was time to hit the slopes, kid-style. Patty shot this little video as we were sliding down the hill. Very good times. It's so much fun to be a kid again!

In lazy North American-style, you don't even have to "earn" the joy ride. They have a conveyor belt that totes you to the top. See pic of Patty hitching a ride below...

Vancouver Christmas

So, it's Boxing Day here in Canada and it's still snowing. A lot. They expect rain tonight, so we'll see if the "Arctic Blast" for the Pacific Northwest is indeed over.

Since we couldn't get the car out of the garage, I made this little video, recapping our Christmas fun. I'm trying to teach myself a few new tricks in Movie Maker.

Tofino, Canada!

*sigh*

What an amazing birthday I am having! Patty has whisked me away to Tofino, BC to stay at the Wickanninish Inn. The hotel is right on the turbulent Pacific Ocean and breathtaking. (Earlier this week, I knew she was taking me somewhere--she'd let me know that much---but had no idea where.)

This place is beautiful! Seriously amazing. The little video below is from the road from Nainimo, where the ferry docked from Vancouver. Also, the pic of me in my red vest was taken on the ferry deck. If you look closely, you can see the Vancouver city center.

The other photos oozing relaxation and zen were taken while we were waiting for our Sacred Seas massage. Foot soak, salt scrub, jetted tub soak, full body massage. *Double sigh*

Halloween : The Gayest Holiday of the Year

I was in San Francisco a number of years back for Halloween and oh ma gawd, I couldn't believe what happened in the Castro that night. Actually, the costumes and gaiety began way before the sun went down. There were herds of men dressed up like Celine Dion with the Heart of the Ocean (this was right after Titanic won the Oscar), squads of fagalicious cheerleaders stopping traffic on Market (not a good idea!) to do an impromptu pyramid and cheer (the standard: "We're here, we're queer, we like it in the bum so get used to it dumb dumb.")

What are you dressing up as for Halloween this year? Feel free to steal Dipstick's idea. Here she is in her costume. You like?

Whatever you do, remember to brush your teeth before going to bed (even if you're sleeping with candy under your pillow or within arm's reach), be nice to teenagers who come to your front door in masks (they usually have eggs with them for meanies) and vote for Barack Obama on Tuesday!

Happy Thanksgiving Day Canucks!

Gobble, gobble, goes the the Canadian turkey. Today is Thanksgiving in Canada! What a wonderful surprise to get to celebrate all there is to be thankful for right as TV season gets underway again and I'm brainstorming what to wear for Halloween. There are, of course, many things to be thankful for this year. Here is a short list I came up with this morning and I was scalloping potatoes:

- Ellen's evolving futch sense of style
- The fact that the L Word is doing a spin-off
- Harvey (the dog) is only eating my old pairs of panties
- Sarah Palin is a moron
- The stock market rallied today
- I get to see Nana next week
- The world hasn't been sucked into a blackhole
- My new pair of boots

Even if you're not in Canada today, I encourage all of you to count your blessings and always clean your plate (even though Weight Watchers says not to).

Lesbian Easter Eggs

I’m sure you all have them. The friends you can count on to throw a really good party. It doesn’t matter what the occasion. Whether it’s a Superbowl bash or card night, you know when you go to these gals’ house, you’re going to have a good time. In my group, those friends are Dionne and Tracy.

So, when I got an invite to an Easter Egg Decorating Party, something I normally would never do, I accepted. Tracy spent hours gluing sequins and cotton balls to make a Ladybug Egg. Dawn decorated an egg for everyone who would be at her L Word party tonight. Dionne tie-dyed half a dozen ova. And Andrea proved that she had years of experience with nieces and nephews putting the color on the egg.

As sometimes happens at parties, things got ugly as the night wore on and the drink flowed. There was a controversial incident when Tracy reached for the glue and “accidentally” knocked over Robin’s dog egg. A full crime scene investigation ensued, complete with chalk outline. We’re still waiting the detective’s report.

Winter Carnivale

Texas and I went to a Christmas party on Saturday at the Ace Hotel. Its theme was Winter Carnivale and it was cah-razy. There was a fire dancer, a man juggling on stilts who also unicycled. It was a wild time!

Want to spice up your holiday party this year? Throw a theme on top of it. Even though Halloween just passed, people still LOVE to dress up. They crave permission to express themselves.

PS: If you're traveling to Portland, stay at the new Ace Hotel, which renovated a turn-of-the-century flophouse into this swanky new hipster magnet. It is right in the heart of the gay district downtown. Very cool and minimalistic with turntables in each room.

Homo for the Holidays

This is a little piece Dipstick and I wrote in Curve this month. Thought we'd post it here, as it might help lessen the holiday blows as we move into these critical two weeks ahead of us when we're inundated with family and all the mayhem of the season. Click on it to read.

Happy St. Nicholas Day

Today is St. Nicholas Day. Growing up, on the eve of this day, we would put our shoes out on the front porch and St. Nicholas would come and fill them with little gifts. Candies, socks or mittens and maybe a small stuffed animal. It's a German tradition that I've continued to do with my girlfriend.

I don't know about you, but I tend to get a lot of emails encouraging me to get a penis enlargement. If I wanted a bigger one, I'd just go to It's My Pleasure and buy one. But I did get a kick out of the ad. I hope you do too.

White Elephant Winner

At Texas' company Christmas parties each year, I'm usually one of the first to pick during the White Elephant gift exchange. Which means, someone always snatches what I pick (if it's cool) and I end up with a porcelain figurine of a heterosexual couple (it made it's fifth appearance this year), a pasta measure ring or a Santa that blows bubbles out of his butt (I kind of like this one). A couple years ago, it nearly went to blows (a different kind) over the dancing African American Santa (I lost) and the year before, I scored Dipstick some vintage Fonz drinking glasses after bribing Texas' cohort with a piece of cheesecake and a twenty.

This year was different--I had the edge--and I used it to my advantage. I was second to last to choose, so I got my pick of gifts to take. I stole something I'd had my eye on during the hour-long tug of war: A Red Faucet Light. (It will look killer in my writing space's bathroom.) I lifted it from the owner of the real estate firm Texas works through, a dyke who we LOVE (pictured here as I snatch it from her!). She was a great sport about it, but I thought I was going to pee my pants at this point (wine always makes me silly).


Such fun and such a great group of people Texas works with side-by-side. Her office is known as the gay RE/MAX and nearly half her fellow realtors also dabble in same-sex yum yum. I wish I'd snapped a pic of Texas last night; she looked absolutely amazing! I'm the luckiest women on earth.

Let's the holiday festivities begin!
